We receive suggestions among our neighbors and include some general, not household specific, observations for consideration to enhance the community.
Street Parking and Curbing
If you park on the street, please curb your vehicle. With no sidewalks, it is important to safely accommodate both pedestrians and motorists. Sometimes uncurbed vehicles are parked opposite both sides of roadway and restrict passage. Occasionally drivers have been blocked by vehicles parked in the street. Please ask your guests and service providers (i.e. lawn care) to help keep the roadways open for everyone.
County Ordinance for Cart Removal
Please do not leave garbage and recycling carts curbside in roadways beyond allotted hours. Per Richland county ordinance, the trash and recycling carts are allowed curbside only on pickup days between 7:00 am to 7:30 pm. Residents appear much more concerned about unreturned carts past the latter time. There are exceptions when collection occurs later, but normally please remove carts per the county ordinance to prevent damage to the herby curbies, vehicles; and possibly property and pedestrians.
Homestead Exemption
The homestead tax exemption on $50,000 of value is available if at least one owner:
•is at least age 65 at the end of the tax year
•is totally and permanently disabled (any age)
•is legally blind (any age)
Homeowners need a driver’s license or birth certificate to confirm age. Letters of disability or blindness satisfy the other qualifications. Here’s the homestead application and the webpage for all available Richland County tax exemptions on real estate and personal property. Additional information is available at the auditor’s office (803.576.2610).
